Nguyễn Năng Hải An is a Vietnamese filmmaker currently based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Vietnam, he is heavily influenced by Vietnamese literature, music, and media, as well as the melancholic aesthetics of East Asian cinema such as Yi Yi, In the Mood for Love, Fallen Angels, and Ky Nam Inn. He is currently pursuing a BA in Film & Television Production at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. His work focuses on intimate, atmosphere-driven stories that aim to feel visually poetic and emotionally grounded, often exploring themes of memory, human relationships, unspoken desire, and emotional distance. His USC application film, The Perfect Employee, received the ASEAN-Japan New Generation Short Film Award in 2025. Outside of school, he has worked across music videos, documentaries, and independent narrative productions, while also interning at Top Dawg Entertainment.
